Instagram size checker: see how your image fits before you post

Choose where your image will show, then pick an image from your device. The checker shows how it fits the frame, what the profile grid crops at the sides, what stories cover at the top and bottom, and whether it is the right size. Your image never leaves your device. You can also download a blank template with the safe zones drawn in.

Your image shows here

It stays on your device: nothing is uploaded.

  • Keep words and faces inside this line (60 px in).
  • Cropped in the profile grid (3:4).

How to use it

  1. Pick where the image will show: a portrait feed post, a square post, or a story or reel.
  2. Choose an image from your device.
  3. Read the verdict. It tells you if the image is the exact size, the right shape but smaller, or a different shape that Instagram will crop.
  4. Check that nothing important sits in the shaded areas or outside the purple line.
  5. If you are starting from scratch, download a blank template at the right size with the safe zones drawn in.

Our carousel size guide explains each one and the common mistakes.

Why the safe zones matter

A post is seen in three places: the feed, your profile grid and, if you share it, a story. Each shows a slightly different part of it. The profile grid trims the sides of a portrait post to a 3:4 shape, about 34 pixels on each side. A story puts the reply bar and buttons over the top and bottom. Text that sits in those areas is lost for some of the people who see it.

Making slides that fit from the start

If you make a lot of posts, resizing by hand gets old. Figcel makes every carousel at 1080 × 1350, 1080 × 1080 and 1080 × 1920 from the start, with text kept inside the safe zones, in your own colours and fonts. Writing the ad that goes with it? Check its length with the Meta ad copy checker.

Questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The checker reads the image in your browser to show it in the frame. Nothing is sent to Figcel or anyone else.

What size should I make my slides?

1080 by 1350 pixels for feed posts and carousels, 1080 by 1080 for square posts, and 1080 by 1920 for stories and reels.

What do the shaded areas mean?

On a 4:5 post, the profile grid shows a 3:4 crop, so the shaded strips at the sides disappear there. On a story, Instagram’s buttons cover the shaded strips at the top and bottom.

What is the purple line?

A margin 60 pixels in from every edge. Keep words, prices and faces inside it and nothing important gets cropped or covered.
